TeachMe: Kindergarten is an educational app that teaches four different age appropriate subjects to Kindergarten aged children: sight words, addition, subtraction and spelling. The intuitive design is kid friendly (user friendly) and allows the child to play without assistance from an adult.  Instructions are given throughout, along with feedback.

While it may not be the most learning entertaining app on the market, it is quite educational and the kids appear to love the rewarding gold coins they get after completing each session successfully.  The coins can be turned in for sticker prizes.

Most people at this point in time should be familiar with the basic mechanics of these types of games. You have some object on the left that is used to topple/destroy objects on the right.

Rather than birds being shot at pigs, you have a monster/dinosaur shooting fireballs to destroy city buildings. With a very cute design approach and excellent build quality, this is on par with Angry Birds.

What makes Burn the City better however are some key differences in game mechanics that do an incredible job of making the genre more kid friendly.

First, rather than having an inverted firing method (pull slingshot back to shoot bird forward), the dinosaur’s fireball goes in whatever direction you drag. This is something that can actually be quite confusing to younger children and though it is minor, it makes a world of difference.

Secondly, rather than keeping with the limited ‘ammo’ approach and essentially challenging players not to ‘fail’ the level, there is (so far) no limit to how many fireballs can be shot out from the dinosaur and while you do receive medals for obtaining higher scores, the level is ‘complete’ once all buildings are destroyed regardless of time/fireballs shot and the emphasis on medals is quite minimal. This is also good in that children aren’t given the impression that they ‘only’ got 1 star out of 3 possible, etc.

In addition, there are a number of new elements that interact with the fireball (nuclear reactor that explodes, flying plane to shoot down, etc) that provide fresh content for those that had no problems with Angry Birds and are just looking for something ‘similar but different’.

All in all, whether you liked Angry Birds and want a similar game, or thought Angry Birds was too difficult, this is an excellent game to get.

A well done matching game with 3 card types and 2 difficulty levels that make it fun for various age groups

While not a difficult type of game to implement, Kid’s Match’Em for Android does its job well. With three card types to choose from (Hats, Animals, and Fuzzy Monsters) and two difficulty levels (Easy has 12 tiles, Hard has 28 tiles), this game is actually a really great way for any child to entertain themselves for a few minutes. The best however are the animal tiles because each time a tile is turned over, the matching animal noise is played as well, so lions roar, cows moo, and monkeys oooh oooh aaah aaah. Unfortunately hats and fuzzy monsters don’t make noise apparently but it’s a nice bonus to a simple game that doesn’t need much more to be great entertainment for kids.

My First Puzzle Toys offers a fun way for kids to solve their 1st puzzles.  There are 12 different puzzles with nice sound effects and beautiful graphics, enjoyable more so for the age range of 2 to 3.

The puzzles are fairly easy to complete but for the specific age range it targets, it will keep them interested enough to repeat the puzzle over-and-over again.

To restart your puzzle, all you need to do is shake it to reset.

This is a great app with super colors. My autistic four year old daughter with few words just lights up when she plays this game. – dougwendy
